Jeff Glor

Good morning everyone! Welcome @jeffglor of @CBSNews & @CBSThisMorning to #jectv Twitterviews! Lets get this things rolling. :)

Jeff:    Ready!

To start off with, please share a little about yourself. Where did you grow up and what schools did you attend?

Jeff:    Grew up in Tonawanda, NY. Attended Kenmore East High School and Syracuse University

What did you major in at Syracuse and are you a fan of their basketball team?

Jeff:    Dual major, Economics and Broadcast Journalism. Yes, fan of the basketball team. Of course!

So do you have a NCAA Basketball Bracket filled out, and how far do you have Syracuse going?

Jeff:    I have them going all the way, but right now that may be more heart than head. Loss of Melo stings.

Yes it does. They’ll still do well. :) Share now, if you will, your progression from college to the @CBSNews desk.

Jeff:    WSTM in Syracuse, WHDH in Boston, joined CBS News early 2007

Quick progression! In 1-5 Tweets, did you have any stories in Syracuse or Boston that you were honored/proud of covering?

Jeff:    Well I would say one of the bigger moments in Syracuse was when I covered the papal trip to Toronto

in Boston, the Athens Olympics was memorable. We spent a month there

You’ve done a number of assignments for @CBSNews as well, including reporting from Haiti. What impact did that have on you?

Jeff:    A pretty big one. Some of the most heartbreaking images I’ve ever seen.

and, for those not following, two years on, it hasn’t gotten much better.

On disaster assignments like the Hatti earthquake, you’re there to report the news, but don’t you feel like helping too?

Jeff:    sure, and that doesn’t mean we can’t, by telling their stories in the best way possible. Shining a light.

Telling a good story can definitely move other people to activity as well. Besides Athens, any other Olympic assignments?

Jeff:    yes, was also there for Atlanta Olympics (’96), Beijing (’08), and Vancouver (’10)

What kind of experience have those been for you in covering them, and are you a sports-person in general?

Jeff:    Definitely a sports guy, but the Olympics are so fascinating because they can also be about so much more.

the intersection of sports/cultures/politics/and more. I’ve always enjoyed doing stories that reach beyond the games

on a side sports note, you already have pass rusher. If you wanna encourage Mario Williams to sign w/Bills, please do.

You are somewhat of an adventure taker yourself right? Didn’t you do a story about base jumping or something similar?

Jeff:    Yeah I went skydiving last year. Going up with Blue Angels soon.

Joel:    Thanks Jeff for your time today. Are there any reports coming up soon that we should look for?

Congrats too on your Emmy last year and your “Author Talk” blog series for @CBSNews. Great use of technology!

Jeff:    Got a fun one coming up tomorrow (3/16/12) morning you may want to check out. Should run 8:45 am EDT. Get ready to jump.

and thank you Joel. Enjoyed it.

Thank you! You’re doing some very cool stuff. I will keep watching for sure

Joel:    Thank you very much. I appreciate your kind words and I’ll look out for your report tomorrow.
