Q – #1 So @PerkatPlay, please share about where you grew up and what were some of the steps you took in life to get to @KARE11?
A: Born in Hong Kong, raised in Tarzana, CA. Valley Boy. Gag me with a spoon because a fork just hurts!
Went to Pepperdine. Alma mater of Montell Jordan (This is How We Do It!) Majored in Broadcasting…
Interned at CNN in Atlanta, Anchored in Tupelo, then onto Memphis (same path as Elvis…same initials too) then KARE
Q – #2 So the @PerkatPlay segments that have been running for years at @KARE11, who came up with that concept/idea?
A: Started em in Memphis trying to catch a shotputters shotput. Wanted a segment that showcased all the other recreation.
that people were up to. Seniors waterobics, ping pong club, etc. Wasn’t originally intended to be so reporter involved
I remember toiling for a longtime about the name for the segment.. once it morphed a bit, we changed it to Perk at Play
Q – #3 It’s certainly a “calling card” of yours! In addition to your World Record tennis match. Any other memorable moments?
A: I think my faves were Demolition Derby in Redwood Falls and being a pro player for a game with the @Minnesota_Swarm
least favorite was being charged by a 1700 lb. Bull. Horn in the tailbone! Ski jumping was petrifying too
Q – #4 Ouch and Yikes! (In that order.) Lets briefly touch on your Social Media use. Do you get guidelines from the station?
A: Encouraged to use it. Not while driving though :)
Q – #5 Good idea! So what kinds of things do you generally like to share/post, do you ever get news story tips sent to you?
A: Love to share Twitpics. Twitvids are cool too. Appreciate the quirky and random… News tips are tricky because…
it’s more imperative to break that stuff on @kare11 as opposed to Twitter or Facebook… do get a hoarde of requests though for….
coverage and story ideas through these media though. And I welcome that.
Q – #6 More about you @PerkatPlay: What are your favorites: Restaurant, place to shop, winter activity and tech gadget.
A: Nice Restaurant: Hazellewood in Tonka Bay and Taste of India. Fast food: Taco Bell! The best. And like Subway because
I have an unhealthy obsession with Jared Fogle. Shopping: I try to avoid malls but do love Creative Kidstuff…
and Shopittome.com – fave winter activity: definitely sledding and pole licking. Favorite Gadget? Inspector.
Q – #7 With being on the Saturday A.M team and doing the weekend news with @RenaKARE11, do you crash on Sundays nights?
A: Crash not from schedule but Sugar Crash from all the Red Vines, Gummis, and other confections that @RenaKARE11 brings
