Twitterview #142 – With Beth Loraine Bowman (@StudioLoraine)

@JoelECarlson – Hello everyone, and welcome to today’s Twitterview of @studioloraine. Lets get things going!

@studioloraine – Hello!

Q – #1    @studioloraine, please share how you got your Twitter handle and where you grew up.

A:    Been on twitter since ’07. Studio is for “art studio” & Loraine is my (& my mom, gma’s) middle name. It’s French.

I grew up in Detroit and Minneapolis metro, Saint Paul and lived in France, and the SE US (Florida).

Q – #2    A world traveler. :) So what kind of “life-steps” have you taken to get where you are and what you do today?

A:    Be curious, be bold, fail a lot, win a lot. Do good work. Have fun.

Q – #3    So what kind of work and projects are you involved with right now?

A:    Recently completed two years of work for a solo show at Augsburg Gallery http://web.me.com/bethbowman/Site/GALLERY.html

I am working on a new series in conjunction w/a Fulbright Foreign Scholarship application

Q – #4    @studioloraine, being in the art world, how have you found social media to be helpful in the work that you do?

A:    I have found it to be very beneficial. I heard an arts leader describe it as “ultimate democracy” – I agree fully!

I have received several shows and other opportunities that most likely would have not happened without it.

I wish more studio artists were on twitter. I see it as a sketchbook only easier to share ideas, images, thoughts.

Q – #5    Who are some creative/artistic people that you follow on Twitter that you receive value from connecting with them?

A:    Tweets where arts/community/economy/design meet via @ebarchdesign @voocreative @nyycarl07 @bluevertical @adrianamullen

One of the first studio artists I found on twitter was @beckyjewell – she’s great to follow and very talented.

Q – #6    I see. Lets go to the FAVS questions: Favorite – restaurant, store, art supply location, summer activity and color.

A:    Fav restaurants: 112 Eatery, Bar La Grassa, Meritage, Fasika Ethiopian, Bangkok Thai, Black Sea, Moscow on the Hill

stores: hate malls, thrift fist. Can’t tell you my favorite because then I would loose my vintage Ferragamo source ;-)

Favorite summer activity? easy! It’s definitely “not camping” – it’s time on the @wafrostcompany patio w/friends!

Best art supplies are at @utrecht_art – I use their paints almost exclusively. I like yellow, and beige is nice

Q – #7    Is beige really a color? :) So to end today, what thought or mantra would you like to share with everyone today?

A:    My favorite recent “OH”: “Be smart. Be good. Be fun.” -someone in Portland. >>> Thank you so much!

@JoelECarlson – Thanks to @studioloraine today for her time and her comments!

@studioloraine – Thank you, that was fun!
