@JoelECarlson: Hello everyone! Welcome to my Twitterview today with the slightly waterlogged @wcco reporter @rachel_slavik. Lets begin.
Rachel: hi I’m here and ready when you are
Q – #1 So @rachel_slavik, share with us where you grew up, where you went to High School and what you did after you graduated.
Rachel: hi I grew up in Mound, MN, and went to Mound Westonka High School. I spent one year at UWSP then
transferred to UW-Madison. Go Badgers!
hi spent time in Duluth, Louisiana, now I’m back home and happy to be at WCCO
Q – #2 I see. So what did you major in at UW-Madison, and then what was your first job out of college?
Rachel: I majored in journalism. My first job was in Duluth at KBJR. Spent three years there, had a g8 time
Q – #3 What kind of work did you do for KBJR? After that, did you come to ‘cco next? How long have you bee with ‘cco now?
Rachel: I was the weekend anchor/reporter. Then, I moved to Baton Rouge, LA where I was the morning anchor for 3 yrs. Been at
Been at wcco since Oct 2010.
Q – #4 Lots of experience! Did you always want to be a journalist when you were growing up? Any good mentors along the way?
Rachel: I don’t have the “always dreamed of being a reporter” story. I fell into journalism because I needed to pick a major
at the end of freshman year. I was lucky and found my calling. Boyd Huppert has really guided me through the years
Q – #5 Good for you, and you get to work in your home state as well. Do you miss anchoring or do you prefer reporting?
Rachel: Thanks! I love reporting. Anchoring is such a different challenge, but I’ve been lucky enough to get a mix of both
Q – #6 You’ve been reporting in the Fargo ND area. Have you personally seen flooding like that before? How are the people?
Rachel: Never. I was shocked by how everyone handled the flooding up there. No panic, which is how I would have reacted
everyone just worked together and helped out their neighbors to keep homes dry. Everyone was so kind up there too
Q – #7 It looks bad for sure. Hopefully it eases up soon! :) Your favorites(s): Restaurant, store, comfort food & hobby.
Rachel: I love Melting Pot and this sushi restaurant called Kobe. Comfort food has to be the greasy stuff, chips, fries, pizza
and I’m a runner/rollerblader. I always run one of Grandma’s Marathon races in June. This year it’s the half.
don’t really have a fav store, but I spend a lot of time in pet stores buying toys. I spoil my dog, Butters.
Q – #8 I’d assume then that Butters goes with you on your runs? What breed is your dog?
Rachel: I wish! No, he’s a miniature dachshund. His little legs can’t handle running with me
@JoelECarlson: I understand! :) Well this marks the end of our Twitterview @rachel_slavik. Thanks for your time and comments. See you on @wcco!
Rachel: Thank you for having me! This was my first Twitterview. :)
