Q – #1 So @heathermeeker, briefly share, where did you grow up & what kind of schooling/training/jobs led you to what you do today?
A: So, I grew up in Central California (Fresno) & went to Fresno State. My degree is in Journalism & my passion is writing
My brother connected me in LA with a PR job at EarthLink before I graduated! Been in tech PR & Marketing ever since!
Q – #2 What other tech companies have you worked with, and what company are you with now? What do they do?
A: I’ve worked w/ startups Stamps.com & Realtor.com. Also Pfizer, Yahoo & Burson Marsteller. Now head PR & Mktg at Whrrl.
Whrrl is a social location-based game with purpose of getting people out trying new things. Apps for iPhone & Android, & mobile web.
Q – #3 I see. So what kind of response has there been to the #whrrl game? What do people “win” that play?
A: As you know, location is hot right now. Whrrl personalizes the world by bringing people together w/similar interests.
People can win prizes when they check in & join these groups – called “Societies”. They can level up & unlock rewards.
Response from brands & retailers is fantastic. We’ve partnered w/ USA WEEKEND, Con Agra, Marie Callenders, murphy_usa
And of course, users love to check in for the chance to win free prizes. Like $50 worth of free gas at Murphy USA!
Q – #4 Awesome! I found the FAQ for @Whrrl too – http://faq.whrrl.com/whrrl/. Is is used outside of the U.S yet?
A: We’re domestic, but you can use Whrrl anywhere. I checked in while at Mexico, Paris & London recently- added locations.
Q – #5 Now, more about you. FAVORITE: Restaurant, brick/mortar store, tech gadget and non-Californian city.
A: I love Mexican food. And LA is known for that. I highly recommend Mijares in Pasadena & La Cocina in Santa Clarita.
My favorite store is Costco- can’t get enough of that place & I live by myself! Lots of TP & paper towels lying around! :)
I love the iPhone & know it sounds cheesy, but it changed my life. I’m such a California girl! How about Washington DC?
Q – #6 I love the Costco explanation! :) What personal/professional goal(s) do you have for the next year?
A: I’m excited to see how 2011will play out- believe it will be year of location. Professionally, a great place to be.
On personal front, it’s been a rough year. Lost my father in June. Hoping to focus on what matters- friends & family.
Q – #7 Sorry for your loss. :( Lets end on a high note! What advice or mantra would you like to share with everyone?
A: I guess I’d just say follow your heart & passions in life. I love what I do & it makes life so much more fulfilling.
